Finding Your Oz: Building Your Business with Heart, Courage & Brains was a great success. With 40+ people in attendance, this well-rounded panel of professionals lead us down the path of success.

Exploring how to ignite, let go, dream, focus and connect was the focus of Sue Cullen as she exemplified HEART. She outlined ways in which to slow down and begin to think about what types of projects thrill us, what kinds of people we want to work with and how we go about bringing them into our world.

Valerie Hausladen, demonstrating COURAGE, shared stories and strategies on why this path is so important. Reading from her book, Professional Destiny, she likened her illustration of what she calls “moving the boulder.” This strategy involves taking the small steps one must take to progress in our projects, careers, life. One quote found in the chapter is from George Lucas, “You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over the hurdles, and break-through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front to you. If you don’t have that kind of feeling for what it is you’re doing, you’ll stop at the first giant hurdle.

To round out the session with BRAINS, Deltina Hay, addressed the crowd with the absolute TOP FIVE WAYS in which we should now be doing business (and why).  1. Start a blog and optimize it.   2. Diversify your presence in the social web  3. Optimize your presence in the social web  4. Optimize your website for the social web and for search engines and  5. Get your content ready for the NEXT generation of internet search: Web 3.0 or the “Semantic” web. If you were unable to attend but would like Deltina’s handout, please contact Kelley Burrus directly.

A special thank-you goes to the incredibly creative efforts of ISES member Blossom Braemer of Blossom’s Floral Artistry and Shoreline Grill for their generosity.
