Meritage Events was formed when?
Nov. 2005
When did you become partner?
I joined as Director of Events in Sept 2006 and became a full partner in the business in 2008.
When you decided to open a satellite office of Meritage, what were some of your concerns?
In Sept. of 2006, after my partner had seen the potential in the Austin market, my main concerns were that I had very little vendor contacts or pull in Austin, most of my work had been in Dallas. That all changed quickly though, I just put myself out there (and joined ISES) and tried to meet as many people as I could. You know I can talk to a brick wall don’t you? Yes, we realize this and love you for it.
What is your ideal client?
One who lets me do my job.
Since your clients are all over Texas, how often do you travel?
Since we have started branching out nationally, my travel has picked up. On average I travel about 2 times per month, but it is on the rise.
What are the top three traits you rely on the most?
Creativity, quick thinking, humor
What was a highlight event of 2009?
Being named Texas Meetings + Events Magazine’s “Best Up-and-Coming Special Event Planner of the Year†for 2009.
What are you most looking forward to in 2010?
Booking Super Bowl business for 2011 in Dallas…this is gonna be HUGE!
Who is Roxie?
Only the best dog in the whole wide world. She is my Boston Terrier mix and my baby girl! She also files my TPS reports and assists in brainstorming sessions.
How often do you set goals?
I set small goals or “ideas†probably every 2-3 months. Larger goals seem to come from the smaller ones that come to fruition. Review them? Oh, I have to admit I am not the best at reviewing my goals or progress. It all seems to be a rolling ball.
What is your single best piece of advice for those getting into this industry?
Learn to live without sleep.
What is one word which best describes your signature style?
Unique
May I have your Christian Leboutin’s?
No, but I have some Manolos that I could maybe part with.
